There are two famous lines in the poem The Road Not Taken by American poet, Robert Frost, which say, “Two roads diverged in a wood and I – I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.” Do you generally go with the flow? Do you ever find yourself wrapped up in the hustle and bustle of life that you can’t even remember when you stopped to “smell the flowers” as they say? Our bed and breakfast exists to provide guests a place for rest and recharging – a place where you can take the road less traveled. Today we want to highlight the special Mennonite country not far from us—a place ideal for a little day trip.
It’s always a beautiful season to be near the Lake of the Ozarks no matter the time of year and right now as we will soon close the chapter of winter and open the doors to spring, we would love to have you stay with us for a restful, relaxing getaway. Just a few miles north of the Lake on Highway 5 is a historic Mennonite community—a humble group of people with a faith of their own and a way of life that is simple, intentional and full of integrity. Beautiful rolling hills and peaceful country roads surround this community. They are known for their hard work and quality products and services. Whether it’s vegetables, fruit and meat or furniture and horse tack, they are proud of what they create and are able to offer others.
Weaver’s Country Market is a quaint general store you might want to wander in during your Mennonite country travels. You’ll find all kinds of goodies from old-fashioned candies to homemade soaps, spices and jams. The Rustic Homestead is another favorite place for locals and visitors to pick up handmade furniture, quilts, candles, and other home décor items. A fantastic place to sample delicious Mennonite home-style cooking is Lehman’s Restaurant. They have some mouth-watering fruit pies and fresh baked breads that are to die for.
Come and spend some down time with us by the Lake—we would love to share our home away from home with you and help you plan a wonderful getaway. Book online today or contact us anytime for more information.
